Inside Edition

Monday Afternoon: Heading in our ride to Inside Edition. Already I felt pretty emotionally spent. It had been an early morning, and we were focusing on the intensity of the accident. I could not get "the look" out of my mind. My heart felt like it was bleeding with sympathy for Nick, but at the same time, OVERJOYED that I am alive. We arrived at the studio and passed security (whew!) and up we went in an elevator to meet our next adventure. We were escorted into a TINY room with a camera. Our lovely interviewer shook our hands and immediately made us feel right at home. The only other people in the room were the camera man, and sound guy. Intimately nestled in this little room we began our interaction. Our children were sitting in 3 chairs behind camera, with the cords to everything at their feet. In the middle of the interview I peered over at my children. Maguire was under the chairs rolling around, plugging and unplugging every cord. My sweet children were bored out of their little minds. Luckily this was different than the Today Show because it wasn't live, so I could stip and talk with the cute munchkins, and Nick and I could talk and talk and talk. If we wanted a "re-do" we did it. For over an hour we chatted. Then in a blink of an eye we were done. Next thing we knew we were off to Central Park to take more footage, and to let my poor kids RUN and play! This was done quickly and we felt strongly that IE had the best of our story, at least the most complete story.

  1. I found your blog researching head injuries...my father in law had a massive stroke this week and had the same operation you had...how long did it take for swelling to go down...and we're you asleep the entire time? Did you die for a few minutes after you hit your head? If so, did anything happen while that occurred? Sorry for all the questions...just fascinated by your recovery and it gives me hope :)

  2. Nick and Jamie, Aunt Karen here again. I have been following your story. What be-u-ti-ful people you are! So crazy how this made international headlines!! Surely it is for a purpose because Heavenly Father allowed you to live and to recover so well and now to tell your story - no telling how far reaching all this will be. Nick, what a handsome guy you are! Your remind me of someone I once knew - oh yeah, my brother!! :) You have been such a strong and loving support for Jamie. Good for you! Not everyone could/would be that way. Jamie, what a inspirational attitude you have what wonderful things to tell the world, about your gratitude and enhanced appreciation for life, for the simple things. Love you both P.S. Did you happen to read my entry about my head injury when I fell out of the car at 2 years old? It was awhile ago, when things were still pretty crazy - so I doubt you saw it, but yeah, I had a severe head injury - no hope for me - they were going to drill holes in my skull to relieve the pressure (this was in 1951) but after a priesthood blessing the swelling went away. Your Dad said to my mom (Grandma Wanda) "Momma, Karen just flew out the door life a leaf!) We were on the California highway between Walnut Creek and Oakland.

  5. Can't wait to see how they portray your story. I was disappointed that the Today Show didn't touch on the spiritual nature of your incident. The world needs a little inspiration.
